DESCRIPTION:The traditional music and dance of Africa will wash through Mill Valley on Sunday\, December 10th with rare performances by a Maasai folk song and dance group from the Rift Valley region of Kenya. The Friends of Sironka Dance Troupe as they are called\, strives to enhance cultural awareness and greater understanding of Maasai culture through the use of visual art\, storytelling\, song and dance. The dance troupe\, conceived by Maasai artist Nicholas Sironka\, were among the invited performers who entertained at former President Barack Obama’s inaugural celebration. \nIn 2001 Sironka and his wife began forming the troupe seeking the most talented Maasai singers and dancers\, but also the poorest. Determined to better their living conditions\, Sironka requires members to use their performance income to improve their homes\, which also significantly improves children’s health. \nDon’t miss this truly unique night of entertainment – spectacular chanting\, pulsating singing and fascinating dancing. Proceeds from the performance and sale of traditional Maasai beaded ornaments will go towards uplifting the lives of the members’ families\, educating their children\, and improving health and sanitation in their communities. \n  \n
