SUMMARY:Music Beyond Borders with Ian Dogole\, Sheldon Brown & Kash Killion
DESCRIPTION:A Musical Adventure that Spans the World!    Join us for a special afternoon with world percussionist/recording artist Ian Dogole and his rotating cast of world-class collaborators for a journey into a riveting and uplifting multicultural and cross-pollinating musical adventure. From music inspired by the Jazz masters to ragas from the Indian subcontinent to Moroccan traditional music to Andean-inspired sound healing and so much more – each afternoon you can revel in an ever-changing musical landscape.  Great for Music Students of All Ages! \nThis series also provides a great educational opportunity for music students to learn about creative improvised music sourced from all over the world.  Grab a glass of wine or non-alcoholic libation and a dessert item at the bar and wend your way into a magical musical vortex that you’ll not find anywhere else in Marin County … and beyond. \n\nIan Dogole – udu\, cajon\, djembe talking drum\, kalimba\, cymbals\nSheldon Brown – tenor & soprano saxophones\, clarinet\, bass clarinet\, crumhorn\, piccolo & other surprises\nKash Killion – double bass\, cello\, bolon\, sarangi\n\nFor pure musical adventure that crosses geographical borders and bridges the divide between “world” music and improvisational jazz\, this assemblage is not to be missed. These three musical innovators will be performing together as a unit for the first time\, however\, they are not strangers to one another. For nearly 20 years\, Sheldon Brown was an innovative force behind Ian Dogole’s bands\, both as a performer and composer and has appeared on a number of Ian’s recordings. Kash Killion and Ian Dogole have been performing together for the last 5 years as part of Mariah Parker’s Indo Latin Jazz Ensemble and appear on her latest CD release.  Come and enjoy what magic they cook up today! \nSheldon Brown performed internationally as a featured soloist with Cuban pianist Omar Sosa\, and recorded on five of Sosaʼs albums. In addition to his own ensemble\, the Sheldon Brown Group\, he continues to perform with many groups in the San Francisco Bay Area\, including Electric Squeezebox Orchestra\, Clarinet Thing\, Darren Johnston Quintet\, Club Foot Orchestra and countless more. For more information on Sheldon Brown\, visit http://sheldonbrownmusic.com/bio/ \nKash Killion records and performs with various ethnic music ensembles and chamber orchestras ranging from the Sun Ra Arkestra to Cuban/Salsa bands such as Roberto Borrell y Orquesta La Moderna Tradición to Western and Indian classical music\, and has over a hundred recordings to his credit. Kash has played extensively with musical icons such as B.B. King\, Cecil Taylor\, John Zorn\, Julius Hemphill\, Reggie Workman and so many more. To ensure accessibility we offer these sessions free of charge to the public. We pay a small stipend to performers.  We are a non-profit organization and we gratefully accept your donations in order to support top-quality programs that include every member of our community. \nThrockmorton Theatre is committed to fostering community and providing accessible\, transforming experiences.  We believe the arts create and bestow community identity and a strong sense of identity and pride rallies confidence\, hope and productivity. This cannot be done\, however\, without risk\, adventure\, and the willingness to embrace and understand the new.   We embrace that risk every day. \n  \n
