SUMMARY:July 2019 ArtWalk and Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:Throckmorton Theatre’s July Art Exhibit features artist Margot R Graham exhibiting in the Theatre Main Gallery and artist Bianca Levan in the Crescendo Gallery. We invite you to join us for Mill Valley’s First Tuesday ArtWalk artist reception on Tuesday\, July 2\, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm. \n\nTHEATRE MAIN GALLERY\nLandscapes by Margot R Graham\nMedium: Mixed media on wood panel\nArtist Reception: July 2\, 2019\, 5-7pm \nArtist Statement\nMargot R Graham was raised in the Bay Area of California\, growing up in a suburban community near the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her father\, Jack Rosengren\, was a renowned nuclear physicist\, which influenced her interests in mathematics and abstraction. She went on to receive a BA in Art Practice at UC Berkeley where she studied with established Bay Area figurative painter Joan Brown and colorist Donald Kaufman…to name a few. In 1979 she moved to New York City to reinvent her art practice and began showing in the East Village as well as the Queens Museum for “up & coming” artists. \nAfter almost a decade\, Margot returned to San Francisco to start a family and build a home\, which revitalized her interest in architecture and design. The process of designing the home alongside contemporary architects became an artistic outlet and redefined her relationship with painting. She worked for several years at the ICB Building in Sausalito\, CA\, and now works out of her studio space in San Francisco. She is presently traveling half the year abroad roaming museums and other cultures. \nFeatured Artwork (left): The Space Between\, 22″X30″\, Mixed media on wood panel \n\nCRESCENDO GALLERY\nBeauty Lies Between My Palm and Death by Bianca Levan\nMedium: Handcut Paper\nArtist Receptions: July 2\, 2019\, 5-7pm and July 27\, 2019\, 4-6pm\n \nArtist Statement\nThe process of papercutting is a method of emotional processing.  The journey to create a piece is a journey through a psychological landscape.  My cuttings generally originate from an idea I’m exploring\, an internal debate\, or an observation about lived experiences.  Since the body carries emotional experiences\, both past and present\, I am able to connect the feelings to thoughts through the physicality of papercutting. \n With each artwork\, I begin by crafting a scene that conveys the internal world I’m experiencing or questioning. These imagined landscapes often include naturalistic elements\, such as trees\, flora\, oceans\, and mountains\, existing alongside manufactured ones\, often taking shapes of buildings or boats.  Using a blade\, I cut and extract pieces from paper.  \n What results is a papercut imbued with the imperfections that arise from a precise tool in imprecise human hands.  I revel in the uniqueness of these variations and hope that they serve to personalize the work so that others may find their own imperfect\, evolving\, growing stories within it. \nFeatured Artwork (right): Beauty Lies Between My Palm and Death\, 9″X12″\, Handcut paper \n  \n
