DESCRIPTION:Karma – A Musical Tribute to Pharoah Sanders is inspired by the uplifting and healing music from legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders’ Impulse! period (1966-1973) and Theresa Records period (early ‘80s). The performance will feature pieces from a number of Sanders’ epic recordings from Impulse!\, including “The Creator Has a Master Plan” (Karma)\, “Thembi” (Thembi) \, “Astral Traveling” (Thembi) and “The Healing Song” (Live at the East). and from Theresa Records\, including “Sun Song” (Shukuru)\, “Farah” (Rejoice) and “You’ve Got to Have Freedom” (Journey to the One). \nThis is going to be an evening of music that uplifts the heart and soul. Come down\, join us\, and soar with the music of Pharoah Sanders! \nMUSICIANS\nIan Dogole – udu\, djembe/floor tom\, talking drum\, kalimba\, balafon\, misc. percussion\, vocals \nRichard Howell – tenor saxophone\, lead vocals \nFrank Martin – piano \nSheldon Brown – woodwinds \nFred Randolph – double bass \nDeszon Claiborne – drum set \nAvotcja – poetry\, misc. percussion \n  \nThis concert is supported by a grant from InterMusic SF. \n  \nWatch Ian Dogole’s tribute to pianist Randy Weston during his Afro-Weston show at the Throckmorton Theatre (March 2016): \n \n
