Adagio – Tempo d’andante – Allegro vivace \nThrockmorton Theatre offers this program at no admission cost because of our commitment to provide cultural events that are accessible to our entire community.  All donations are gratefully accepted and help us to continue presenting these programs. \nRachel Kim\, born in Seoul\, South Korea\, began her formal piano studies with Helen Smith Tarchalski at the age of 11. Throughout her early years\, she has been a top prizewinner in numerous solo and ensemble competitions around the Washington\, D.C\, Metropolitan area and was presented with the Distinguished Music Achievement Award by the Maryland State Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.   She has participated in numerous summer festivals around the US and in Europe\, including Aspen\, Brevard\, and the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy\, and has performed in master classes by Leon Fleisher\, Jean-Yves Thibaudet\, Bonnie Hampton\, and Abby Simon. Currently she maintains a busy performance schedule in a piano duo team and a piano trio in the Bay area\, as well as serving as staff accompanist for the San Francisco Conservatory and teaching for Amabile School of Music. \nRachel is also passionate in serving the arts community of San Francisco and will complete a professional development certificate in Non-Profit Management in the fall to further her skills in working for the arts administration industry. In her spare time\, she is an avid runner and hiker\, holds a bartending license\, and volunteers for political campaigns. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Catholic University of America in Piano Performance\, studying with Marilyn Neeley and Jose Santana\, and a Master of Music degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music\, where she continues her studies with Paul Hersh. \nColombian cellist Juan Mejia hails from his hometown of Medellin\, where he completed his early musical studies at Universidad Javeriana under the tutelage of Mintcho Badev. Upon moving to the United States at the age of seventeen\, he was accepted into the prestigious preparatory program at Interlochen Center for the Arts before matriculating to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to complete his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees under the guidance of Jean Michel Fonteneau. He has participated in master classes for Eleanore Schoenfeld\, Norman Fischer and Bonnie Hampton\, and has concertized extensively around the Bay area collaborating with many different ensembles. He is currently enjoying a career as a soloist\, teacher\, and cellist of the Triple Wavelength Trio and the Da Jeong Piano Trio. \n  \n
