DESCRIPTION:Program \nJonathan Alford\, piano & Lewis Patzner\, cello \nBach sonata number 2 for cello and piano\nOther dimensional you by Patzner\nSonatina for cello/piano–Alford\nMarcha- Alford\nAllegro from cello sonata by Patzner\nLibertango-Piazzola\nDescarga Proteus\n\nJonathan Alford Alford is a versatile\, virtuo Oakland-based pianist who has performed or recorded with many of the Bay Area’s best Latin bands including Avance\, Los Compas and the Machete Ensemble. In addition to being one of the most sought after keyboardists on the Latin scene\, Alford is also called on to lend his services his services accompanying singers like Elaine Lucia\, Jenna Mamina\, Maria Marquez and Roberta Donnay. A fluid\, versatile and highly inventive musician\, Alford also shines in a straight-ahead jazz setting\, performing in ensembles like the Sheldon Powell Quartet. Trained classically\, Alford started learning jazz at the relatively late age of 25\, studying with Mark Levine. In 2006\, he released Tenaya\, his first CD as a leader. The album is a brilliant showcase for Alford’s wide ranging talents\, featuring the pianist on hard hitting Latin and mainstream jazz compositions.\n\nLewis Patzner was born\, raised\, and currently resides in Oakland CA. He received a B.M. in cello performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins in 2007\, where he studied with Amit Peled and graduated with the Grace Claggett Ranney award in chamber music. He is a founding member of Judgement Day\, who’s music was described by Strings Magazine as “a master class in the seemingly boundless possibilities of signal-processed\, electronic string music and a testament to the band’s creativity.” Judgement Day currently has 6 releases\, including “Polar Shift” on Minus Head Records. Lewis plays with many other local groups of varying styles\, including folk\, jazz\, Latin\, Persian\, and rock. He has toured as a side musician with Tim Kasher\, Mates of State\, Pinback\, dredg\, and Margot and the Nuclear So-and-So’s. As a session musician he has recorded with Slash\, Pete Yorn\, Taking Back Sunday\, Low Anthem\, Two Gallants\, The Matches\, and others. A dedicated classical musician\, Lewis performs locally with many groups\, including Berkeley/West Edge Opera as principal cellist and other “Freeway Philharmonic” orchestras. In September of 2011 he cofounded the Town Quartet.\nWelcome to our 2020 season of NOON CONCERTS!  Our 2020 season runs from January thru June 2020 and features some of the most outstanding musicians from throughout the Bay Area and beyond.  These classical  concerts are free to the public and available on a first-come\, first-serve basis.  If you need ADA accommodations or have a group that wishes to attend please contact Barb at Barb@142ThrockmortonTheatre.org to make arrangements.  The concerts are popular and do fill up so it is a good idea to plan ahead. \nABOUT NOON CONCERTS  We have opened our doors for the past 7 + years and presented our Noon Concerts Series free of charge to the public. We bring in talented musicians\, offering listeners the opportunity to discover the beauty of music in an intimate\, accessible setting.  Concerts are in a one-hour format and located in one of our street front settings where both audience and musicians can sit in vibrant\, close proximity.  Musicians often stay after the performance to informally speak about the program and their upcoming concerts. \nNOON CONCERTS CURATOR  We have had the good fortune to have Beni Shinohara as our Noon Concerts Curator over the last 4 years. She also studied extensively in Europe with Sandor Vegh before coming to the United States. Beni has been the Assistant Principal Second violin for the San Francisco Opera Orchestra since 1988 and Assistant Concertmaster in the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra since 1990. She has appeared as a soloist with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony and the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra\, the Houston Ballet Orchestra\, and the Cabrillo Music Festival Orchestra. Over the years\, she has premiered numerous twentieth-century Japanese composers’ works\, participating in the “Music Today” Concert Series under the direction of Toru Takemitsu. She also performs with many with Bay Area chamber ensembles such as the Marin Chamber Players\, Gold Coast Chamber Players\, and the Edgewood Trio.  She currently lives in Mill Valley with her husband Katsuto and their Flat-Coated Retriever\, Myla. \n
