DESCRIPTION:Throckmorton Theatre’s Wednesday Noon Concerts\nApril 19\, 2017 \nElbert Tsai\, Violin\nYeonjin Kim\, Cello\nMihyun Kim\, Piano \n~ Program ~ \nKorngold suite op. 11 “much ado about nothing” \nSchumann fantasiestüke \nBrahms trio no. 3 in c minor \n*** \nABOUT THE MUSICIANS \nVirtuoso violinist Elbert Tsai leads a multifaceted career as a recitalist and sought-after pedagogue. His recitals\, which often celebrate the short showpieces and gems of the instrument’s 450-year musical history\, have been featured recently at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music\, Three Rivers Performing Arts Institute\, YES Foundation for the Arts\, Throckmorton Theatre\, Claremont College\, Le Petit Trianon Theatre\, and Colburn School for the Performing Arts. Before embarking on a solo and chamber music career\, Elbert was a member of the San Francisco Ballet and San Francisco Symphony orchestras. He toured with the symphony throughout the United States\, Europe\, and Asia from 2006-2016. Elbert has taught violin and chamber music at Center Stage Strings\, the Luzerne Music Center\, San Francisco Conservatory of Music\, SFCM Pre-College Division\, and the Crowden School. He holds degrees from the University of Southern California\, Rice University\, and Oberlin College. For more information\, please visit www.elberttsai.com. \nCellist Yeonjin Kim has featured as a recitalist and chamber musician across the U.S.\, Europe\, Japan and her native Korea and made concerto appearances with numerous orchestras in Cleveland\, Ann Arbor\, Breckenridge and Seoul. Ms. Kim’s multiple prizes and awards include the Sorantin International competition\, Bossart Award\, Austria’s Dichler-Sato competition\, Japan’s Viva Hall competition\, and the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra Competition. Yeonjin Kim graduated from Seoul National University in Korea and moved to Japan to study at Toho Gakuen with Ko Iwasaki. She received Master and Doctoral degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Michigan under Richard Aaron. \nA Korean-born pianist Mihyun Kim maintains an active musical career as a soloist and chamber musician in the U.S. and abroad. She has appeared in venues such as Kennedy Center\, U.S. State Department and Seoul Arts Center in South Korea\, among others. Ms. Kim has participated in various competitions\, winning numerous awards including the first and special prize in Washington International Young Artist Piano Competition and the top laureate at the 5th Isidor Bajic International Competition. Prior to the recent move to the Bay Area\, she has served as a collaborative pianist at the University of Michigan. Dr. Mihyun Kim holds Bachelor’s degree from Yonsei University with Academic Honors and scholarships. She obtained her Master of Music degree from Yale University and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Michigan\, both under full scholarships. Her teachers include Kyung-Sook Lee\, Peter Frankl and Arthur Greene. She has also received guidance from renowned artists such as Leon Fleisher\, Claude Frank\, Ivan Moravec and Boris Slutsky. \nWEDNESDAY NOON CONCERTS \nThe community is invited to our complimentary Wednesday Noon Concert series. As part of our ongoing mission to use the transformative power of the arts to inspire and enrich our community\, we have opened our doors for the past two years\, every Wednesday at Noon\, and presented concerts performed by talented musicians that are free of charge to the public. These free noon performances offer listeners the opportunity to discover the beauty of music in an intimate accessible setting\, while providing the community with cultural enrichment and exposure to talented performers. \nConcerts are in a one-hour format and performances take place in the intimate Tivoli or Crescendo where both audience and musicians can sit in vibrant\, close proximity. Musicians often stay after the performance to informally speak about the program and their upcoming concerts. \n
