MEET THE COMEDIANS

David Huntsberger

You might recognize David Huntsberger’s voice from the Professor Blastoff podcast with Tig Notaro and Kyle Dunnigan, which premiered at #1 on iTunes and was named to Entertainment Weekly’s “Must List” at #2. David has appeared on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend as well as NBC’s Last Comic Standing. He hosted Syfy’s late night comedy clip show REACTOR and has written for The Benson Interruption on Comedy Central. David has performed all over the map at top comedy clubs and festivals including the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, Bentzen Ball Comedy Festival in D.C., Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, The Comedy and Burrito Festival in San Francisco and the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin. Sam Jay

Hailing from Boston MA, comedian Sam Jay is creating a buzz in the comedy scene with her new, refreshing perspective. Sam Jay brings a relatable hilarity to her experiences as a female, African American, and a lesbian. She is featured on season 3 of Comedy Central’s “The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail.” In 2015, she was named to the Comedy Central Comics to Watch list. Sam Jay has performed at festivals across the US, including Portland’s Bridgetown Festival, The Laugh Your Asheville Off Comedy Festival and Boston’s Women In Comedy Festival. Opening for powerhouse acts like Hannibal Buress (Comedy Central), Dave Atell and Joe Clair (BET), Sam Jay is setting her own stage and building quite a following. Witty, candid and raw, Sam Jay is a comedian worth seeing and one you will be talking about long after you do.


Turner Sparks

Based in Suzhou and Shanghai, China, Turner Sparks started his comedy career in 2009 by founding Mainland China’s first stand up comedy group, “Stand Up China.” Before taking the stage in 2009, Sparks founded Mainland China’s first American ice cream truck when he brought New Jersey’s “Mister Softee” trucks to China. Currently a regular performer at Shanghai’s Kung Fu Komedy Club, Sparks has performed hundreds of shows throughout China and Asia, most recently being awarded “Best of the Fest” at the 2014 Akumal Comedy Festival in Mexico presented by Stand Up Records and 1st Runner Up at the Hong Kong International Comedy Competition. Brendan Gay

Brendan is a Chicago based comedian who smiles confidently when he gets nervous. Whether it’s his keen perspective on minority culture or growing up as a millennial bro, he’ll make you laugh. In 2017, Brendan is starting his “52 x 52” comedy tour where he travels to 52 cities in 52 weeks doing standup comedy across the country. He’s also the producer & host of the Brendan Being Brendan Podcast where Chicago’s funniest comedians gather together to express the joys, weirdness, and hilarity of every day life. Andrea Jones-Rooy

Andrea Jones-Rooy is a social scientist, writer, and comedian. When she is not consulting for Fortune 500 firms, Andrea performs standup comedy and circus acts all over the world. In New York City, she performs standup 5 nights per week at the Lantern Comedy Club. In China, she performs in Chinese AND English at Kung Fu Komedy, China’s first standup comedy club. Andrea is a professional circus performer and was a resident performer at Cirque le Soir Shanghai from 2013-2015; now she tours internationally across Europe and Asia with their World Tour. Matt Gubser

Don’t let his laid-back demeanor and messianic appearance fool you, Matt Gubser irreverently slices through social conventions of all shapes and sizes with his razor-sharp wit, and recounts the absurdity of his experiences parenting, dating and aging. Matt is a staple of the San Francisco Bay Area comedy scene and performs across the US & Canada. He has appeared in comedy festivals all over the country including SF Sketchfest, Sacramento Comedy Festival, San Diego Comedy Festival, San Francisco International Comedy Compeition and the Wolrd Series of Comedy in Las Vegas.  Matt is a part of the Ha Ha Heathens comedy tour, a contributor to Savage Henry Magazine, and produces shows around the SF Bay Area. Johnny Steele (host)

Johnny Steele is a veteran comedian, some-time talk show host, writer, humorist, political satirist, acclaimed actor and all-around loud mouth commentator. He’s the former host of several radio and TV shows including The Live 105 Morning Show, THE SHOW on KRON 4/Bay TV, The War On Error Radio Hour on Green 960. Johnny is a past winner of the San Francisco International Comedy Competition and has performed comedy across the US, Canada, and overseas for 30 years. Johnny has been teaching comedy for 15 years and is currently wrapping up his book, 50 Quick Comedy Tips. He has written for corporate CEOs, Grammy winning musicians, and Academy Award winning actors.
