Wednesday Noon Concerts presents The Alphabet Baroque Club with An English Country Garden!

A concert of (mostly) British composers, with some commentary on British music and composers and their relation to the English country house of the 16th-18th centuries. Featured composers include  Tobias Hume, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Arne, and John Jenkins.

The Alphabet Baroque Club is a lighthearted group that plays seriously beautiful music. Now internationally acclaimed since their appearance at the 2015 Galway (Ireland) Early Music Festival, the ABC performs regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area. The ABC uses historically accurate instruments to explore the music of the baroque in its own sonority, and also happily re-orchestrates pieces to fit the ensemble. The ABC is based in Sonoma County.

Judiyaba, treble viol and pardessus de viole, loves the world of melody and ornamentation; a contrast to her previous experience playing cello in the SF Opera pit. She also enjoys exploring visual arts, from quilting to printmaking. She is working toward a Master's degree with her thesis on the first performance of Thomas Arne's Alfred.

Maria Caswell, violin, is a founding member and viola player in Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, but prefers to exercise her chamber music ego on the violin. She enjoys teaching violin lessons to kids and taking walks with her goats.

Gwyneth Davis, viola da gamba, moved sideways from cello to gamba and now gets to have it all, bass lines and melody.  She also enjoys playing with The Lamplighters and the Eloquence String Quartet. She is working toward a Master's degree with her thesis on musical life in the English country house in the mid 17th century.

The inimitable Phebe Craig, harpsichord, holds us all together. She teaches at UC Davis, is a sought after continuo player, and enjoys running off to Utah whenever she has a chance.

WEDNESDAY NOON CONCERTS

The community is invited to our complimentary Wednesday Noon Concert series. As part of our ongoing mission to use the transformative power of the arts to inspire and enrich our community, we have opened our doors for the past two years, every Wednesday at Noon, and presented concerts performed by talented musicians that are free of charge to the public. These free noon performances offer listeners the opportunity to discover the beauty of music in an intimate accessible setting, while providing the community with cultural enrichment and exposure to talented performers.

Concerts are in a one-hour format and performances take place in the intimate Tivoli or Crescendo where both audience and musicians can sit in vibrant, close proximity. Musicians often stay after the performance to informally speak about the program and their upcoming concerts.
