Throckmorton’s  Sunday Sessions Songwriter’s Circle features some of the best musicians in the Bay Area music scene:  Linda Imperial, Kurt Huget, Julietta Hay, Peter Harris and Dore Coller.

Linda 1

Beginning her career with San Francisco rockers Kid Courage, Linda Imperial quickly established herself in variety of other genres, from Jazz to to Dance to Trance and beyond. Her list of credits and associations is dizzying, having worked for and with The New York Jazz Explosion, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Starship, Sylvester, The Weather Girls and many, many more. With Loverde, a ‘70’s dance/vocal group which Linda co-founded with front man Frank Loverde, she toured the world, promoting the group’s breakout hit, ‘Die Hard Lover,’ which debuted on Billboard at #4, and stayed there, not for days or weeks, but for months and months and months. As a solo artist, Linda’s own songs have also hit the charts, both in the U.S. and abroad.

Kurt Huget has been a mainstay in the Bay Area music scene for many years, as a performer, songwriter, and teacher. His original Americana music contains elements of rock, jazz, blues folk, country, and bluegrass. He has performed, recorded, and written songs with members of many of the great San Francisco rock bands, such as The Grateful Dead, Huey Lewis & The News, Sly & The Family Stone, Sopwith Camel, Jefferson Starship, and more. A career highlight was co-writing and recording songs with legendary Grateful Dead lyricist, Robert Hunter. For over 25 years, he has been a volunteer performer for the Bread & Roses organization, providing music to isolated audiences. Additionally, he teaches a weekly guitar class to inmates at San Quentin Prison.

Singer-Songwriter Julietta Hay’s music is inspired by fairytales, funk, and fantasy. Bluegrass, blues, British folk and psychedelic rock n roll all influence her songs. Her mission as a songwriter is to let the muse out, to sing of broken hearts, hobos, the return of lost love, and the magic that dwells at the very center of our lives. A long-time solo player, Julietta is now the songwriter and guitarist for her band, The Dead Sailor Girls

20170813 182359 3 Peter Harris is a Marin County guitarist and songwriter. As the lead guitar player in David Freiberg’s Quicksilver Messenger Service, Peter specializes in the acid-drenched, raucous, and reverberated tones of the 1960s hippy era. In the past Peter has filled the Jerry Garcia role with Melvin Seals’ JGB, as well as channeling Michael Bloomfield in the House of Bloomfield, a Bay Area all-star jam band with a rotating lineup that has included Terry Haggerty and Martin Fierro.  As an acoustic guitar player, Peter dabbled in gypsy jazz with the group Django Obscura. And as a songwriter, Peter is at home with the acoustic guitar as his main instrument in the songwriter’s toolkit.  He explains, “As Segovia observed, the guitar is like a mini-orchestra. If I get an idea for a new song, 9 times out of 10 I pick up my acoustic, which is always out of its case, and I find I can always find that chord or musical sequence that I need to explore that idea. To me, songs are like 3 minute movies, and there is usually a strong visual element to whatever I write. I am partial to songs that seem like themes, with a strong melody. The Songwriters’ Circle series at the  Throckmorton is a great opportunity to meet likeminded music fans and experience some great local talent. This isn’t normally what I do so it’s a welcome change of pace.”
