Tim Silva reflects on the group:
This group of songwriters have close connections, classical training, and an affinity for Oakland’s DIY culture. For the past 8 years, we have lived together, played together, and supported each others’ projects. For me, it all started just off of Telegraph Avenue. I met Tom in 2010 and soon moved into a vacant room in his house. This house, known as ‘Om Sweet Om,’ was a known indie venue, hosting a variety of shows from electronica, to folk, to choirs, baroque music, and more. After years of conventional music experiences, these evenings inspired me, empowered me, and are still some of the most beautiful events in my memory. It was in this house that Tom’s simple-but-utterly-unique brand of music inspired me to get serious about writing my own songs. I began playing with Nick and helped form a band that was called, ‘Neighbor.’ It was here that Tom and I first sang as a trio with Caitlin. ‘Om Sweet Om,’ was an incubator. When the house disbanded, I moved in with Caitlin and Briget. In the place we called ‘Rand,’ we continued our house show endeavors, with Briget rediscovering her voice as a songwriter, and Iron Henry giving our first public performance. It was here that I first publicly shared an original song. All of us performed at Rand. It was beautiful, and ultimately became another arts incubator, until a fickle landlord forced the remaining artists out. Now I live with Caitlin, Nick and a few other dreamers in a place called, ‘Camp Granada.’ We have only hosted a handful of shows to date, but the camp has become a hub for rehearsals, recording, and creative activity. Two albums, an original musical, and most recently, an original theatrical score have been created here, amongst too many other bits of love to even list. I hope you can join us and see how this art-immersive life in Oakland has inspired our music.

There is an incredible wealth of talent who make their home right here in the Bay Area. Our Sunday Sessions invite performers in to share their talents and our community in to enjoy and be inspired! We pay a small stipend to performers, donations to support these events are gratefully accepted.

The Throckmorton is dedicated to the inclusion of all members of our diverse community; every member is entitled to be exposed to thought-provoking, multicultural events.
