Host David Nihill (Founder, FunnyBizz) and world-class storytellers and performers Brandon Spars, Jeff Greenwald, Red Scott, Nina G and Justin Lockwood, present 10 minute stories that won’t shy away from true grit.
STORYTELLER BIOS
Brandon Spars
TEDx speaker and 3 time Moth Winner (2 Grandslams). Brandon Spars lived and traveled in Indonesia and the Pacific Islands for six years before earning a Master of Arts in Southeast Asian Studies and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of California/Berkeley. Brandon recently released his first collection of tales, entitled Live to Tell. This collection includes the scripts of six award-winning performances at The Moth in Berkeley and San Francisco as well as at West Side Stories in Petaluma. Brandon lives with his wife and two children in Santa Rosa, California.
Jeff Greenwald
Jeff Greenwald has travelled extensively through five continents, working as a journalist and photographer. In addition he has created exhibits, lectures and educational programs for San Francisco’s Exploratorium, the University of California, The Body Shop, and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Jeff is the author of six books, including Shopping for Buddhas and Snake Lake. He also directs the nonprofit EthicalTraveler.org, is a Member Emeritus of the San Francisco Writers’ and a sworn enemy of fascism in all its forms, foreign or domestic.
Red Scott
Offstage, Red enjoys exploring the ways an individual can be indoors and fully protected from the Sun. He beat 146 comics to win the 2010 Rooster T Feathers Comedy Competition. He performed at 2011-2016 SF Sketchfest, including appearing in Jimmy Pardo’s “Write Now!”. His Game of Thrones podcast, “Boars, Gore, and Swords” is a member of the BoingBoing podcast network. He performs all over the Bay Area, and is a regular at The San Francisco Punch Line, The San Jose Improv, and Rooster T Feathers, as well as the usual black box theaters and laundromats.
Nina G
Nina G is an author, TEDx speaker and San Francisco Bay Area’s favorite (and only) female stuttering stand-up comedian. Nina brings her humor and storytelling to help people confront and understand social justice issues such as disability, diversity and equity.
Justin Lockwood
Justin is a storyteller, comedian, actor, playwright and more. His revealing stories and clever insights have made him a favorite of audiences around the Bay Area and beyond. Justin regularly performs at many of the nations best comedy clubs and comedy competitions including the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, Burbank Comedy Festival and Seattle Hilarious Festival. He is the producer of Comedy Rocks at Rock Wall Winery and is the founder of Artattack Theater in Ashland Oregon. Justin has written, directed and produced multiple plays and starred in dozens of theatrical productions.
David Nihill
Leaving Dublin, Ireland, where he was born and raised until the age of 22, David got drunk on travel and never quite hit the sobriety of it. A bestselling author, David has been featured in Inc, NPR, Huffington Post, Forbes, Lifehacker and the Irish Times, and was recently part of the Irish Kings of Comedy Tour, SF Sketchfest, the Ventura Comedy Festival, Ukiah Comedy Alley, and the Kansas City Irish Festival. A multiple Moth Storyslam winner, Grandslam finalist and occasional host David has also told tales at Porchlight, The Naked Truth, Fireside and Litquake. Always a funny storyteller, these days he calls San Francisco home when immigration officials permit.
