STORYTELLER BIOS

Maureen Langan

Maureen Langan was named one of the “Ten Standout Stand-ups Worth Watching” by Backstage Magazine. She is also a TED speaker and an award-winning broadcast journalist. She can be heard every Sunday night hosting Hangin’ with Langan, a live, three-hour talk show on San Francisco’s premier radio station KGO. She is a frequent guest host on Cumulus stations across the country, including WABC in NYC.. Her wit and shoot-from-the-hip interviewing style earned her the title of Best Female Commentator for her work on Bloomberg Television and Radio. She has dished with the likes of Howard Stern, Joan Rivers, George Carlin, Sandra Bernhard, and John Cleese.MAUREEN’s skills as a comic and journalist make her a popular contributor on the talk show circuit, including HLN, CBS, FOX and MSNBC.


Doug Cordell

Doug Cordell is a comedic storyteller and performer, NPR radio essayist and Emmy-nominated writer. His true-life radio stories air on NPR’s Snap Judgment, APM’s Marketplace and WLRN’s The Public Storyteller. He has been featured at theaters and clubs across the U.S. and abroad, and has led workshops on story, narrative and performance in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Marrakesh, Morocco. A member of the Writers Guild of America with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dramatic Writing from New York University, his television credits include PBS, Disney and Nickelodeon.


Joey Avery

After starting his career in Cape Town, South Africa Joey Avery received the Jimmy Gunn award for Best Newcomer to the Bay Area comedy scene and was recently listed in SF Chronicle as one of the Bay Area Comic’s to catch. He has appeared on Fox and AJ+ as well as in the San Francisco Sketchfest Comedy Festival and the San Diego Sun God Music and Arts Festival. He currently produces content for Chubbies Entertainment and is a regular guest on Uproxx’s Film Drunk Frotcast.


Petra Hanson

Indie writer and musician, Petra Hanson was a member of Japanese retro pop band Gaijin à Go Go. The 60’s pop band was signed to Sony Japan and worked with legendary producer Joe Blaney. After a decade, Petra put music aside and moved back to the U.S., taking up residence in San Francisco. She put her focus into storytelling and producing shows for live audiences. As a result, Petra founded The B/Sider, a blog turned podcast dedicated to praising and promoting life…after hitting the top forty. Through her podcast, Petra coaches people from all walks of life to tell their stories. She also produces a new storytelling series in San Francisco about spinning life on The B/Side.


Larry “Bubbles” Brown

Larry “Bubbles” Brown has sustained a San Francisco comedy career touching five decades by being self-deprecating, pessimistic and bitingly hilarious. He is a Throckmorton Theatre favorite, and a frequent host of Tuesday Night Live Comedy! Larry tried stand up comedy in 1981 at the Holy City Zoo in SF and has stayed with it ever since. He has appeared on over 25 TV shows, including numerous appearances on David Letterman. He co-starred in the acclaimed documentary “Three Still Standing” with fellow 1980s comedy workhorses Will Durst and Johnny Steele, and he was also in the movie “The Kiterunner.” Larry is a frequent opening act for Dana Carvey and Dave Attell.


David Nihill

Leaving Dublin, Ireland, where he was born and raised until the age of 22, David got drunk on travel and never quite hit the sobriety of it. A bestselling author, David has been featured in Inc, NPR, Huffington Post, Forbes, Lifehacker and the Irish Times, and was recently part of the Irish Kings of Comedy Tour, SF Sketchfest, the Ventura Comedy Festival, Ukiah Comedy Alley, and the Kansas City Irish Festival. A multiple Moth Storyslam winner, Grandslam finalist and occasional host David has also told tales at Porchlight, The Naked Truth, Fireside and Litquake. Always a funny storyteller, these days he calls San Francisco home when immigration officials permit.
