A Special Evening celebrating choices in childbirth and the opening of the Marin Family Birth Center!  Including a special screening of The American Dream,  the latest documentary film by Paulo Patruno on maternal health disparities.

The American Dream profiles the work of Jennie Joseph, a British-trained midwife, women’s health advocate, the founder of Commonsense Childbirth, who created a revolution in prenatal care. Alarmed by high prematurity, illness and mortality among low income and uninsured women, she established an outreach clinic for pregnant women that has reduced maternal and infant disease and death in Florida.
U.S. maternal health outcomes are shocking among developed countries. In our country, two women die every day from pregnancy-related causes – a rate that has increased over the past 25 years. Black women are the most in danger, and are four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women.

This evening is a friend gathering for the only freestanding alternative birth center in Marin. Opening August 1, 2016, near Northgate Mall, it is a new site for a 10-year-old healthcare organization. The Marin Family Birth Center expands access to childbirth options for all women, particularly those who are low-income, uninsured and/or underinsured. Mothers will thrive in a midwifery model of care that provides a broad range of prenatal, delivery and postnatal services.

You can purchase Tickets here.  Proceeds for the evening will benefit the Marin Family Birth Center.
