ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

Heidi Wilcox joined the San Francisco Opera Orchestra as Assistant Concertmaster in 1992 and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra in 1993.

She comes from a musical family of five children, all of whom became professional musicians, and played with world-renowned ensembles. From the age of four she studied with her father, Edward Wilcox, and later with his teacher, Paul Rolland, in the Congress of Strings program at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.

Heidi attended the North Carolina School of the Arts, and the University of Miami, Florida. She had master classes with many artists, including Sydney Harth, David Nadien, David Taylor . She was Associate Concertmaster  with the Omaha Symphony and Charleston Symphony, Charleston, S.C., Concertmaster of the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, Principal 2nd of the Knoxville Symphony, and a section player in the Seattle Symphony.

She was a member of the New Century Chamber orchestra, and for 2 seasons was acting Principal Viola with the S.F. Opera. She has performed numerous solo and chamber music concerts, including those for the Noontime concert series in S.F., the Berkeley Early music festival, the SF Contemporary players and many other solo and chamber music programs throughout North America, South America and Italy.

A dedicated teacher, Heidi teaches out of her private studio in San Francisco. Her students play at the San Francisco Youth Orchestra, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (collegiate level) the SOTA High School, the Golden Gate Philharmonic, the Scottish Fiddlers and the Kaleidoscope ensemble.  Heidi is also happy that many students continue playing while pursuing other degrees at major Universities.

José López is Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Keyboard Studies Program at Florida International University in Miami, and is the President of the South Florida Chapter of the American Liszt Society, inaugurated in 2010. He has performed throughout the United States, Italy and Central and South America with orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber groups in concert halls, summer festivals such as the Music Festival of the Hamptons in New York and the Killington Music Festival in Vermont. Active throughout South Florida, he has been a featured performer in the Florida International University’s Music Festival; ISCM New Music Miami Festival, the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival, Coral Gables’ Mainly Mozart Series, University of Miami’s Miami Festival, and as founder and co-director of the Deering Estate at Cutler’s “Chamber Concert Series.”

Lopez’s recently released CD on the Toccata Classics label featuring Vol. I of Alkan’s complete piano transcriptions of selected Mozart works is currently receiving positive and exciting reviews from major publications throughout the world. López’s recording of the complete solo piano music by Riccardo Malipiero,  released in the summer of 2012, has also received favorable reviews by critic Tim Smith in The Baltimore Sun, in Music Web International and in Fanfare magazine.   His upcoming CD release on Toccata Classics features solo piano works by 19th-century Cuban-born composer José Comellas.

A versatile pianist and enthusiastic performer of chamber music, López’s interest in contemporary music has resulted in frequent world premieres and collaborations with composers, along with the keen pursuit in resurrecting rarely heard works by Romantic and Classical composers. López received his MM and DMA degrees from the University of Miami School of Music, where he studied with Dr. Rosalina Sackstein, a former pupil of Claudio Arrau and Rafael de Silva. He has recorded for SNE, Albany, Innova and Toccata Classics record labels.

WEDNESDAY NOON CONCERTS

The community is invited to our complimentary Wednesday Noon Concert series. As part of our ongoing mission to use the transformative power of the arts to inspire and enrich our community, we have opened our doors for the past two years, every Wednesday at Noon, and presented concerts performed by talented musicians that are free of charge to the public. These free noon performances offer listeners the opportunity to discover the beauty of music in an intimate accessible setting, while providing the community with cultural enrichment and exposure to talented performers.

Concerts are in a one-hour format and performances take place in the intimate Tivoli or Crescendo where both audience and musicians can sit in vibrant, close proximity. Musicians often stay after the performance to informally speak about the program and their upcoming concerts.
