ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

East coast pianist Evelyne Luest joins west coast violinist Mariko Smiley and cellist Angela Lee in a concert of some of their favorite repertoire. All three musicians are originally from the Bay Area. Ms Luest and Ms Smiley have been playing concerts together occasionally since their High school years in the Marin Youth Orchestra.  Ms lee and Ms Luest played together more recently at the “San Francisco Performances” series in a concert of Lisa Bielawa’s music.  All three musicians have performed world wide to great acclaim. Ms Smiley is a member of the San Francisco Symphony,  Ms Lee is a member of the Lee Trio and Ms Luest is a member of the Contrasts Quartet. Ms. Luest will perform three colorful and atmospheric solo piano pieces written by her husband, Pulitzer Prize winner, Aaron Jay Kernis.  Ms Lee and Ms Luest will  follow with a delightful set of cello and piano pieces full of Georgian folklore by one of Georgia’s foremost composers, Sulkhan Tsintsadze.  The concert will end with the epic and passionate B major Piano Trio which has the best of both the youthful and wiser Johannes Brahms. The masterpiece was written in 1854 when Brahms was only twenty years old. He made significant alterations thirty-five years later, in which the youthful passionate romanticism is preserved, but yet has a more compact structure than the first version. It is the later version which you will hear today.

WEDNESDAY NOON CONCERTS

The community is invited to our complimentary Wednesday Noon Concert series. As part of our ongoing mission to use the transformative power of the arts to inspire and enrich our community, we have opened our doors for the past two years, every Wednesday at Noon, and presented concerts performed by talented musicians that are free of charge to the public. These free noon performances offer listeners the opportunity to discover the beauty of music in an intimate accessible setting, while providing the community with cultural enrichment and exposure to talented performers.

Concerts are in a one-hour format and performances take place in the intimate Tivoli or Crescendo where both audience and musicians can sit in vibrant, close proximity. Musicians often stay after the performance to informally speak about the program and their upcoming concerts.
